My challenges began with my adoption, which led to being separated from my birth mother at a tender age. With biological parents affected by schizophrenia, I found myself navigating neglectful foster homes until the age of two, when I was welcomed into a loving family. These young experiences shaped my mental health into adulthood, leading to debilitating symptoms.

On August 5, 2023, my journey took a pivotal turn as I was finally admitted to the hospital after enduring almost a decade of mental health struggles. Despite my persistent pleas for help, I was repeatedly turned away, caught in the labyrinth of insufficient resources, inaccessible services, and overflowing psychiatric units.

Sadly, this narrative is not unique. Countless Canadians find themselves in a similar plight, repeatedly seeking assistance only to be met with denial, waitlists, or slipping through the cracks until it's nearly too late. It took me standing at the precipice of my own mortality to finally receive the help I so desperately needed.

Following my admission, a new chapter of hope began. After years of grappling with my mental health concerns, I received a diagnosis of PTSD and depression. With the guidance of a compassionate psychiatrist and healthcare team, a path to healing emerged. However, the treatment was private, requiring me to bear the costs out of pocket.

In the fall of 2023, I embarked on a transformative journey of psychotherapy and ketamine therapy. These experiences were nothing short of life-altering. Through my healing journey, I came to a profound realization: it's not that people don't want to get better; it's the scarcity of resources that obstruct their path to healing.

Empowered by my recovery, I found clarity in my life's purpose. I was granted the gift of healing so that I could become a voice for change. In 2017, I cycled 1,300 km through Saskatchewan and raised $25,000 for the Canadian Mental Health Association.

On May 6, I will get on my bike again, embarking on a cross-Canada journey (7,000 km) to advocate for a better mental health system. With your support, I aim to raise a substantial amount for the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), directing funds to mental health programs and services in each province, especially in areas with the greatest need. Together, let's raise awareness and funds to enhance mental health outcomes for all Canadians.

Your donation will propel us towards a system and society where individuals grappling with mental illness can not only heal but also thrive. 💕
