Volunteers – Champions in The Movement for Mental Health!

Before the Event Begins:

• Loading All Event Materials: We need some able-bodied individuals to bring all event equipment (sound, chairs, materials, etc.) to Vimy Ridge Park.

✓ Commitment – 6 am – 7 am – 930 Portage Avenue

• Set Up: We need some able-bodied individuals to help us set up for the event. This includes ensuring that RDH markers are still intact, set up tables and chairs, tents, put up signs, banners, flags, etc.

✓ Commitment – 7 am – 8:45 am – 821 Preston Avenue

• Registration: Register riders as they arrive – check off their names, receive any pledge forms with money, provide program, let them know where they can purchase a shirt, orient them to the decorating their bike, welcome them to the celebration.

✓ Commitment – 8:30 am – 10:15 am – 821 Preston Avenue

During the Ride & Event:

• Cheerleaders: Every celebration is in need of cheerleaders and is one of our most important roles and will require the most number of volunteers. Cheerleaders will also act as pseudo-course marshals – directing riders in key route changes and crossings. You will be partnered with another volunteer or sign up to volunteer with a friend. Bonus: you are right where the action is taking place! Feel free to bring some noisemakers and get ready to cheer our riders on!

✓ Commitment – 9:15 am – Noon

• Water/Snack Station: Use your friendly personality to welcome riders and visitors while filling water bottles or cups and handing out snacks before lunch.

✓ Commitment – 9:30 am – 12:00 pm or 12 pm – 1:45 pm – 821 Preston Avenue

• Greeters/Floaters: Love to meet new people? Join us as a greeter to welcome riders, their supporters, and those who come to take part in the fun! Circulate throughout the event area to chat with those participating in this great event and help out as needed.

✓ Commitment – 8:30 am – 1:45 pm – 821 Preston Avenue

• Groundskeepers: Help us keep Vimy Ridge Park clean and beautiful by circulating and picking up disposing of garbage throughout the event. Checking on the porta-potty cleanliness and trouble shooting any clean up situations. Feel free to greet or stop and chat with guests, riders, and other volunteers.

✓ Commitment – 9 am – 2:30 pm – 821 Preston Avenue

• Picnic Game Hosts: You will be paired up to lead life size picnic games. You will need to have good energy and skills at engaging people. If you are “game” for this role – you will be set up at a game station with all the materials, rules and small prizes for those who participate. The following are the games that will be on hand:

✓ Commitment – 9 am – 1:45 pm – 821 Preston Avenue

• Collecting Tickets at Food & Ice Cream Station: Every great picnic will be memorable by the food and the kindness of those supporting our onsite vendors. In this role you will be collecting food and ice-cream tickets, providing exceptional hospitality and trouble-shooting any issues that may need support and coordination.

✓ Commitment – 9:30 am – 1:45 pm – 821 Preston Avenue

• Selfie Booth – This role is about making memories and there is no better way than posing in our RDH Frame! You will gather individuals and assist them in taking a photo using their camera. So if you are a natural at getting people to smile, laugh and coordinate and memorable photo this opportunity is for you. We will have 2 selfie stations during the event.

✓ Commitment – 9 am – 1:45 pm – 821 Preston Avenue

After the Ride & Event:

• Tear Down & Clean Up & Put Away: After the celebrations we will need to return Vimy Ridge Park back to its original beautiful state. Help by packing up tents, tables and chairs, taking down signs, taking down route markers, picking up garbage, etc. Vehicles will need to be loaded with all the event gear and returned to 930 Portage Avenue. It takes a village to set up and run a successful event. It takes that same village to support the tear down, clean up and putting away event materials.

✓ Commitment – 1:45 pm – 3:30 pm – 821 Preston Avenue & 930 Portage Avenue

There will be a required online orientation for all volunteers to equip them with all the information necessary to be successful in the area you are championing. Each volunteer will be given a Mental Health Champion t-shirt to identify event support and take home with them following the event! There will be several orientations to sign up for and attendance is essential to empower your success and to reach our goal of a fun-filled celebration event!

To receive a volunteer application, please email: ridedonthide@cmhawpg.mb.ca and you will have a response within one business day.
