The Impact

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted virtually every aspect of our lives. It's certainly changed the way we do things here at CMHA-WECB, including how we work, how we provide services and how we fundraise. A large percentage of our fundraising events have been cancelled, postponed or moved to a virtual platform. But the need still exists, and in some cases is even greater, than before COVID-19 became a part of our every day dialogue. Your support of Ride Don't Hide, Virtually will provide funding for programs that don't receive government funding, and for some new resources created to address the mental health challenges brought about by this pandemic.

Losing a loved one can be one of the most traumatic experiences of our lifetime. Our renowned Bereavement Program helps adults and children cope with loss by providing supportive grief counselling, as well as education and consultation to community agencies, groups and the general public. Additionally, support groups offer peer support and education to help understand the grieving process and teach healthy coping strategies. The program relies on community support for sustainability.

Our Client Assistance Fund provides short-term financial support to CMHA-WECB clients in need. Up to $250 per client/year is available to use on basic necessities like food vouchers, bus tickets, cab fare, etc. As we have pivoted to phone-based service provision, the need for cell phones and cellular minutes has grown. The program is fully funded through community donations.

Our Sole Focus Project seeks to generate greater awareness, address stigma and raise funds to ensure that mental health education and promotion are available for workplaces, schools and community agencies. Visit www.solefocusproject.ca to find out more. #showyoursole

In response to greater stress and anxiety experienced due to COVID-19, and thanks to the generosity of The Toldo Foundation, CMHA-WECB has implemented a Pandemic Response Therapist to help those experiencing mental health concerns due to the pandemic.
