Funds raised during Ride Don’t Hide 2022 will go to mental health education and peer support services throughout Northern BC.

Even before the pandemic, the mental health care system in Canada was not meeting people’s needs due to long waitlists, access issues, inequity, and underfunding. These issues are especially prevalent in rural and remote areas of Northern BC. Mental health challenges are arising and being worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, the opioid crisis, and natural disasters. Mental health education and peer support services are two ways we are working to provide support to those in need. Through fundraising and donating, you are giving us the resources necessary to provide these essential services.

Mental Health Community Education & Workshops:

Through offering workshops on mental illness and informational material, CMHA hopes to break down the barriers that lack of knowledge can create. Mental health is an essential part of our overall health. We all have mental health, just as we all have physical health. Mental health is more than just the absence of mental illness. It’s a state of well-being in which we realize our own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work and study productively and are able to contribute to your family and community.

Being aware of our mental health is important because it affects every single aspect of our daily life and ability to function. Topics may include, but are not limited to, understanding mental health, stress management, developing a support system, and gaining a work-life balance.

Peer Support:

Offers support to individuals impacted by mental illness who require assistance in resolving issues or concerns they may have in dealing with areas of their daily lives such as: income assistance applications, tenancy issues, making appointments, finding information, financial matters or connecting to services.
